Bodies of missing US couple found in deep gorge on Mt. Taygetus

The bodies of an elderly American couple were located on Friday down a deep gorge on the Taygetus mountain range in southern Greece, just north of eponymous Sparta.

The couple, David Harrison Robinson, 83, and his wife, Lucretia Robinson, 80, had been missing since Jan. 23, after leaving their residence in the seaside town of Methoni, west of where the bodies were located. A care-giver later said she spoke by phone with the couple in early February.

Authorities said the pair were found near their vehicle, close to the bottom of a 200-meter cliff.

A nationwide alert had been issued for the couple.

The Robinson’s daughter had previously told police she feared her parents may have committed suicide.
