An expanding investigation into the issuance of fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates in a handful of cities around Greece has been transferred to Greek Police’s (EL.AS) internal affairs division, a week after a single employee at a central Greece health center issued nearly three dozen such documents.
At present, authorities have traced 33 such fake certificates from the specific health center near the city of Karditsa, while previous reports cited as many as 47. Just as ominously, Health Minister Thanos Plevris on Tuesday said that among the recipients of the fake certificates are healthcare professionals.
Investigations have also begun in the northern prefectures of Kozani and Drama, in the western coastal city of Messolonghi, while authorities are also investigating a case on the island of Santorini supplying a possible fake certificate showing a previously contracted case of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Plevris this week announced that a draft law that will impose fines, after conviction, of 5,000 euros per each case involving a fake medical certificate, both for the provider and recipient of such forged documentation.
