Greek tourism post-Covid recovery continues strong into the autumn

The occupancy rate for hotels around Greece during the third week of September 2021 reached 63 percent, the relevant tourism minister announced on Wednesday, as the year is shaping up to exceed targets.

In a television appearance, the minister, Vassilis Kikilias, said demand remains robust for Greek holidays in the post-summer period, pointing to a decision, among others, by German air carrier Condor to continue flights to Crete until November.

Looking to 2022, he said major UK tour operator Jet2 is now ready to offer Greek destinations, including Athens city tours, as of next April.

Finally, he said Greece this year featured as the top choice for French tourists in June 2021, posting a hefty 88-percent hike, yoy, compared to the same month of Covid-battered 2020.

Kikilias said more French holiday-makers preferred Greece in the following month, July, than they did French domestic destinations.
