Speaking to Mega and on the show “Big Picture” with Niki Lymperaki, the professor of Atmospheric Physics, Christos Zerefos, referred to the deterioration observed in extreme weather phenomena due to climate change.
The professor pointed out that both the severity and the frequency of the phenomena are intensifying due to the climate crisis and, as he states, people should learn to live with this new condition.
Also, in terms of the cost of the climate crisis, he notes that it is expected to reach 700 billion euros for the country by the end of the century.
More specifically, he said: “We have learned to live with earthquakes. Now we will learn to live with the extreme weather phenomena. The flood that happened once in 1000 years now happens once in 100. The one that happened once in 100 will happen once in 10. At the same time it will get worse. “The cost of climate change for our country, if we do nothing by the end of the century, will exceed 700 billion, that is, it will more than double our foreign debt.”
