Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) has selected the Satellite Communications Center of the OTE Group in Nemea for the installation of the first type of infrastructure with an antenna that collects data from satellites (Optical Gateway) via optical signal (laser), for commercial purposes.
KSAT, a provider of satellite services and geoscopy, through this infrastructure will provide data and photographs of the earth to organizations of global reach that deal with the management and monitoring of environmental data.
OTE Group, for its part, has installed and integrated KSAT specialized equipment at the Satellite Center in Nemea and has undertaken the provision of infrastructure-as-a-service services, the interconnection between satellites and ground, as well as 24 × 7 operational support of the service by specially trained staff.
It is noted that the use of optical signal instead of radio frequencies, allows the collection of larger volumes of data from space via laser, in each passage of the satellite. As satellite communications presuppose good weather conditions, without clouds, for Earth-satellite communication, the area of Nemea is an ideal choice, with the chances of clear skies reaching 95% during the summer months.
