Difficult night for firefighters

Thasos: two firefighters wounded in raging wildfire

Since dawn, aerial forces have sped to extinguish the big fire that has broken out since Wednesday night in Thassos and is raging uncontrollably.

The fire in Thassos broke out in the settlement of Skala Potamias, near the summer camps that exist in the area. According to the Fire Department, no houses are threatened and the campsites are not operating.

Fighting the flames during the night was difficult, but fortunately there is no wind in the area. The fire front is located in a ravine, which firefighters on foot have difficulty approaching.

A very strong force with 102 firefighters, 33 vehicles, 5 teams on foot, 4 planes and 5 helicopters, one of which is for aerial coordination. The firefighting forces have also been reinforced with firefighters from Veria.

The big battle is to keep the fire from escaping the ravine where it is burning and stop it from heading towards populated areas.
