Mitsotakis praises 30-year presence of Microsoft in Greece; cites major investment to create 3 data centers

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday evening highly praised Microsoft’s 30-year presence in the east Mediterranean country, speaking at a dedicated event.

“Microsoft trusted Greece. It was the first major tech company to announce a very important investment, namely, the construction of three data centers in our country. And we’ve proven, as a government, that we have the ability to create fertile ground (for investments) and be able to attract major tech companies,” he said.

Referring to the creation by his government of a digital governance ministry, and what he called a “digital leap” over the past three years, Mitsotakis said the aim is to now prove that “we’re not only consumers and clients of technology, but we can also create digital technology, which will facilitate governments coming into contact with citizens and businesses.”

He also highlighted a partnership between the Greek government and Microsoft to train 100,000 citizens in acquiring higher digital skills, as well an agreement between the country’s culture ministry and the global IT giant to digitally maintain and restore ancient Olympia, including with the assistance of AI.
