The Bank of Greece (BoG) on Thursday announced a total dividend payment of 400.7 million euros to its major stakeholder, the Greek state.

The announcement nevertheless comes on the heels of lower results reported for 2022, as Greece’s central bank said pre-provision earnings totaled 589.4 million euros last year, down from 649.6 million euros in 2021 – a decrease of 60.2 million euros.

Net earnings, after provisions, reached 456.8 million euros, while total net proceeds totaled 938.7 million euros, down from 1.011 billion euros in 2021, down by 7.2 percent. Total expenses, pre-provision, fell by 3.3 percent, to 349.3 million euros.

The announcement said the central bank’s general council will seek shareholders’ approval for a dividend payout of 13.3 million euros, or 0.6720 euro per share (unchanged from the previous year), raising its extraordinary reserve by 42.7 million euros and the transfer of 400.7 million euros to the Greek state.

The latter is expected to be approved.
