Greek construction, media tycoon Giorgos Bobolas, 95, passes away

Greek construction and media magnate Giorgos Bobolas passed away on Tuesday at the age of 95.

Bobolas was born in 1928 in the port city of Piraeus, with roots from the southern Greece prefectures of Laconia and Messinia.

His father fought in the opposition against Axis occupation during WWII, and Giorgos Bobolas himself was arrested by German forces at the age of 14 for scrawling anti-occupation graffiti in his home town.

He studied and received a degree in civil engineering from the National Metsovion Polytechnic of Athens, the most prestigious in the country.

Bobolas co-founded the construction company Technodomi, as later expanded into the public works and infrastructures sector with the company Ellaktor, while establishing the Pegasus media group in subsequent years.
