Kalymnos is featured in thetravel.com’s new list of the world’s ten most exciting climbing destinations in the summer months.
“The first normal summer after the pandemic is just around the corner and the improvement in weather conditions will lead many climbers to destinations that combine relaxation, natural beauty, rich history, gastronomy and high quality climbing terrain,” says the relevant tribute. Kalymnos is second on the recommended list with the editors of the popular site stating that the “hidden gem” of the Aegean has managed to maintain its original color without being affected by mass tourism, while at the same time being the shared secret of thousands of climbers from all over the world who will take refuge on the island exploring climbing routes of different difficulties.
The rest of the list is features Sardinia, Yosemite National Park, Cote d’Azur, Mount Arapiles in Australia, Lander Wyoming, Squamish in Canada, Norway’s Flatanger, Rock Lands in South Africa and the Dolomites.
“Our choice to form climbing fields in Kalymnos gave impetus and a new identity to the destination. Climbing tourism contributes significantly to the expansion of the tourist season. This year in particular, the flows of climbers have started since the beginning of March, while they are expected to continue at an unabated rate throughout October,” stressed the Mayor of Kalymnia, Dimitris Diakomichalis.
