New provisions in the code governing courts and court officials in Greece aim to restrict calls by collection agencies and relevant legal representatives to individual borrowers.

Based on the new provisions, collection agencies and legal firms will be able to contact, by phone, an individual only once every two days.

A call to one’s place of work will only be allowed if the borrower or debtor has provided the specific phone number as the sole contact number.

Additionally, a 10-day “grace period” between the moment a debt has become overdue is now foreseen, as well as prohibition against any contact earlier than 9 a.m. and later than 8 p.m., and only on weekdays.

Collection agencies and other similar agents are prevent from transferring a borrower’s personal information to another party, with or without a consideration.
