The unemployment rate in Greece eased to 11.8 percent of the workforce in the first quarter of 2023, marginally down from 11.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to 13.8 percent in the corresponding trimester last year, the Hellenic Statistical Authority announced on Thursday.

The number of jobless people exceeded 550,000, down by 1.4 percent from the previous quarter and decreased from 14.9 percent from Q1 2022.

Conversely, more than 290,000 people (52.7 percent of total) were registered as long-term unemployed. The unemployment rate among women stands at 15.4 percent; 9 percent for men.

The unemployment rate in the 15-19 age group remained high, at 33.2 percent; in the 20-24 age group 26.1 percent; in the 25-29 group 19.3 percent and in the 30-44 group 12.5 percent.
