
The passenger traffic of the Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport from destinations outside the European Union showed a significant increase in the 5 months of January – May 2023.
Overall in the foreign network (EU and non-EU countries) in El. Venizelos, the number of transported passengers reached 6.255 million during January-May of the current year, increased by 45% compared to the corresponding period last year as well as by 4.5% compared to 2019.
May also moved upwards, where trafficked passengers from abroad recorded an increase of 24.8% and 9.1% compared to the compared month of 2022 and 2019 respectively.
The list of countries
Israel is in first place of the list of non-EU countries with the highest passenger traffic at Athens airport, with the number of trafficked passengers marking an impressive increase of 92% compared to the corresponding period last year and 73% compared to 2019.
In second place are passengers from the USA, which increased by 21% compared to 2022 and 2019 respectively. It should be noted that American travelers are among those who spend the most money in the stores operating at the country’s largest airport.
The top three is completed by Egypt with an increase of 83% and 25% compared to the considered period of 2022 and 2019. This is followed by passenger traffic from Canada, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, while it is impressive that Ethiopia and Tunisia complete the list .
