PM Mitsotakis to meet Turkish President Erdogan on Dec. 7 in Athens

A highly anticipated meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will finally take place in Athens next month, instead of previously announced Thessaloniki, in northern Greece.

The visit by Erdogan on Dec. 7 comes on the occasion of the convening of a bilateral high-level cooperation council, where ministers from both countries meet, in the presence of high-ranking ministry delegations.

“Technical reasons” were cited for the change of venue, from Thessaloniki to Athens.

The northern Greece metropolis is particularly prominent in neighboring Turkey, due to the fact that the modern republic’s founder, Kemal Mustafa Ataturk, was born there in the 19th century.
