Α 4.6R earthquake on Friday afternoon, centered some 23 kilometers east of the coastal town of Kymi and off the eastern coast of the large island of Evia, was felt in the greater Athens area.
The quake was recorded at 16.14 local time (14.14 GMT) at a depth of 14.6 kilometers.
Local seismologists who spoke on the state broadcaster (ERT) said the maritime region where the tremor was pinpointed is not concerning.
It was particularly felt in the northern districts of Athens, some 165 kilometers to the southwest.
Seismic activity with tremors above 4 on the Richter scale has ostensibly picked up over the recent period in the wider Greece region, i.e. in the southern Balkans and central Mediterranean, according to some media.
