The luxury cruise ship “Viking Saturn” dropped anchor in the port of Rhodes Saturday with some 890 passengers on board.
Arriving from the island of Crete, specifically from Heraklion, the cruise ship was greeted by representatives from the municipality and officials from the island’s tourism sector.
The ship was the first to arrive in the port of Rhodes ahead of the upcoming season.
The 890, mostly American, passengers had the opportunity to ask questions about nearby sites worth visiting as they enjoyed the local honey sweets (melekounia) offered to them.
“Our island’s advantages, which are its history, natural beauty and culture along with its infrastructure, make it a top destination for the international cruise ship market in 2024, which will be a milestone year for Rhodes,” Vice-Mayor for Tourism and Culture, Giorgos Toppos, said.
Cruise ships sailing under the Viking Cruises flag make over 35 visits to Rhodes every year, with 2024 set to be an even better year than 2023.
