Debit and credit card payments are now an extremely widespread practice among Greek consumers, with seven out of 10 saying they use cards and “digital wallets” in their daily transactions.
This results stem from a nationwide survey conducted by the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (HECC) for Visa, and focusing on the penetration of digital payments in Greece as well as domestic consumers’ habits.
Making card payments seems to be particularly widespread and has become a systematic practice in Greek consumers’ everyday life.
Almost seven in 10 (65%) use cards to a “high” and “very high” degree during their daily transactions. Digital payments also appear deeply embedded in the daily lives of Greek consumers, as almost one in two consumers (46%) choose to carry both cash and cards with them every time they venture out. A notable percentage rely exclusively on cards (24%), surpassing those who choose to carry cash exclusively (18%).
