Ruling New Democracy (ND) party continues to field a comfortable lead over the second-place party, which is now solidly PASOK, whereas SYRIZA again falls to fifth place in terms of respondents’ preferences, according to results of a Metron Analysis poll unveiled on Mega Channel’s prime-time newscast on Friday.
Center-right ND fields a 12%-point lead over socialist/social democrat PASOK, whose strength in the polls, at least, continues to rise.
In terms of numbers, ND is given 22.4% to PASOK 13.2%. The Communist Party (KKE) reaches 8.1%, followed by the right-of-center Elliniki Lysi with 7.6%. Once formidable and radical SYRIZA continues to collapse in yet another opinion poll, falling to 6.5%.
The undecided / no answer portion of the results totaled 10.9%.
In extrapolating the vote, ND reaches 29.2%, which is higher than the actual number it received in last June’s European Parliament election, 28.3%. PASOK reaches 17.2%, up from 12.8% from its Europarliament showing.
In terms of the first round of the six-way PASOK leadership election on Sunday, incumbent Nikos Androulakis leads the pack with 24%, followed by former EU Commissioner Anna
Diamantopoulou, who has risen in the polls and is given 22% in the Metron Analysis results. Athens Mayor Haris Doukas appears to have lost momentum and follows with 20%, while one-time minister and current MP Pavlos Geroulanos now gaining and reaching 18%.
