Construction of North Macedonia Section of Gas Line With Greece Begins

The construction of a 67-kilometer section of a gas pipeline inter-connector between Greece and North Macedonia, extending from the northern Greece frontier to the town of Negotino, in the south-central part of the land-locked country, began on Wednesday.

An inauguration ceremony, in fact, was attended by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, who was joined by the ambassadors of Greece, the United States and the EU, along with representatives of Nomagas, Desfa, Srbijagas, the EBRD and the EIB.

The section of the pipeline in northern Greece extends 56 kilometers and will run from Nea Mesimvria, near Thessaloniki, before reaching the Evzoni–Gevgelija border post. From there, the cross-border section, 67 kilometers long, will continue into North Macedonia to reach Negotino.

The gas inter-connector will have a total length of 123 kilometers, with an initial capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters per year, and with the potential to expand to three billion cubic meters annually.
