Greece’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.2% in Sept. 2025, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). The figure marks a notable improvement from 9.7% a year earlier and matches the upwardly revised 8.2% recorded in Aug.
The number of employed persons reached 4,326,322, representing a 1.4% increase (or 59,086 more people) compared with Sept. 2024. However, employment dipped slightly by 0.5% (23,597 fewer people) relative to Aug.2025.
Unemployment figures also showed steady progress. The total number of jobseekers fell to 385,804—a decrease of 70,449 people, or 15.4%, from the same month last year, and marginally down by 384 individuals compared to Aug.
Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labor force—those under 75 who neither work nor seek employment—stood at 3,031,831. This group decreased by 0.5% year-on-year but rose by 0.7% compared with the previous month.
ELSTAT noted that labor market indicators such as employment and unemployment tend to fluctuate seasonally.
In Greece, for instance, summer months typically see higher employment due to the tourism sector. To better reveal underlying trends, the agency applies seasonal adjustment techniques, which remove the effects of predictable seasonal patterns.
Monthly estimates are also subject to revisions as new data become available and the adjusted time series are updated.
