The deadline for settling tax obligations that were due on Friday has been extended to Monday, December 1. The Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue granted an extension due to technical problems that affected bank payment systems on Friday, November 28, 2025, the final day for paying several tax liabilities, preventing many citizens from completing their transactions.
Any surcharges that were calculated, or that might be calculated between the close of business on Friday and Monday, December 1, will be erased.
Households and businesses are facing more than €12.1 billion in tax bills during the final two months of the year. Major obligations include income tax, ENFIA property tax, VAT payments, and road taxes. Taxpayers must also submit declarations for any retroactive payments received by employees or pensioners, as well as filings by heirs of deceased taxpayers.
Banking systems experienced disruptions on Friday afternoon, attributed to the surge of Black Friday transactions combined with the fact that it was the final business day of the month.
Banking-sector officials said the exceptionally high volume of transactions, including salary, benefit, and contribution payments, created a “blackout” across bank networks.
