With the completion of the final 10 kilometers by AVAX, the Patras–Pyrgos motorway is now fully open to traffic as of Thursday, Nov. 4. This latest section, stretching from just outside Patras in Mintilogli to Alissos, links seamlessly with the 65 kilometers inaugurated on Aug. 1, forming a modern and safe motorway.
The full opening of this stretch of the Olympia Odos was marked by the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, the CEO of AVAX Group, local MPs, representatives of regional authorities, and the President and CEO of Olympia Odos.
The Last 10 Kilometers in Numbers
The final 10 kilometers represented the most challenging segment of the first 21-kilometer section of the motorway, built by AVAX.
The project’s complexity lay in its demanding technical specifications, the need to carry out construction on the existing route while maintaining continuous traffic flow, and extreme weather conditions over the past 120 days, including the Aug. wildfires and heavy rains from Sept. onwards. Despite these obstacles, the project was delivered on schedule, without the slightest delay.
The inauguration of the Mintilogli–Alissos section completes the continuous Athens–Elefsina–Corinth–Patras–Pyrgos corridor of the Olympia Odos.
The Patras–Pyrgos motorway significantly enhances road safety and connectivity in Western Greece, providing a modern motorway that serves residents, businesses, and visitors in the regions of Corinth, Achaia, and Ilia, as well as the Ionian islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia.
