Disabled Passenger Dies at Athens Airport After Falling from Special Lift

A “freak accident” claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman at the Athens International Airport (AIA) on Friday when she fell nearly two meters from a lift used for disabled passengers.

The incident occurred as she was exiting a plane by using the special lift. She had arrived by plane to Athens from the Ionian Sea Island of Cephalonia.
The woman was first treated by first responders stationed at the airport but passed away while being transported by ambulance to a hospital.

A companion of the victim was slightly injured during the incident.

According to the state-run broadcaster (ERT), the woman faced serious health problems, with an autopsy ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
