A corporate entity controlled by well-known Greek shipping magnate George Prokopiou has submitted the highest bid for the Hellenic Shipyards (ENAE or HSY) at the Skaramangas industrial hub, west of Piraeus.

According to reports, the Prokopiou group submitted a bid of 37.3 million euros for property adjacent to the Skaramangas shipyard. That property was included in a portfolio held by the Hellenic Public Properties Company (HPPC) S.A.

The second consecutive tender for the facility was successfully concluded on Wednesday.

Pyletech, part fo the Priovolos group, had been viewed as the front-runner for the shipyard, although it submitted a lower bid.

In a latter Tweet from the official Greek prime minister’s account, PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the “…Skaramangas Shipyards turn a new page after 10 years of uncertainty, and open a new chapter of growth and prosperity. The due diligence procedure we pushed through was successfully completed, with the final offer four-times higher than the (starting price), which nearly reached 78 million euros.”
