Government representative Giannis Economou began the briefing of political reporters with the tripartite meeting of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt. From this emerged many emphatic messages, as he characteristically noted.
The government spokesman also referred to the Ring Road around downtown Athens, which he said will take effect on October 25. Referring to the implementation of the Ring from next Monday, he said that an effort will be made to reduce excluded vehicles, while he also announced the establishment of two special monitoring groups.
Mr. Economou also announced five new measures to tackle the demographic problem among them: funding the creation of 50,000 new places for infants and toddlers in kindergartens and the creation of 10,000 new jobs in for which unemployed mothers will be a priority.
When asked whether tolls will be placed in the center of Athens, Mr. Economou answered categorically no.
