Listed ocean-going shipper Costamare has returned to the bulk carrier sector in a massive way, following a short interlude, announcing the purchase of another two vessels, according to Xclusiv Shipbrokers Inc.
According to the reports, Costamare has acquired the 64K-dwt ultramax “Soho Merchant”, built in 2015 by Chengxi shipyard, along with the same-sized “Soho Trader”, also built in 2015. The capital outlay was 24.5 million USD per vessel.
Over the past few months Costamare has announced the acquisition of 37 bulkers, 39 with the new purchases. The company also controls 78 carriers.
Costamare made history by listing the first shipping bond traded on the Athens Stock Exchange. It reported revenues of 216.3 million USD in the first quarter of the year, up from 107.9 USD in the same quarter of 2020, along with profits of 115.2 million USD in Q1 2021, significantly up from 25.2 USD in Q1 2020.
