A significant hike in the number of daily appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations has reported in the wake of this week’s decision by the government – ratified by Parliament on Thursday evening – to impose a 100-euro fine per month on citizens above the age of 60 who have not been vaccinated for the Covid-19 virus.
According to reports, 60,000 new appointments were scheduled for first and third doses on Sunday.
The Greek government, as cited by PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis this week in Parliament, also wants to reduce the wait time for the third dose, from six months to four months.
Over the last two days, more than 25,000 appointments for first-dose vaccinations were booked online.
Based on preliminary estimates, nearly 494,000 citizens – and with a tax code number – in Greece over the age of 60 have not been vaccinated and have not yet booked an appointment.
