The Ministry of Environment and Energy is concluding the main directions of the subsidy program for households for the purchase of new low energy consumption electrical appliances.
According to information available to OT, the action announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister Costas Skrekas will have a budget of over 40 million euros and will be ready to be announced after April.
The same sources report to OT that it will help domestic consumers to get a refrigerator or freezer or air conditioner, depending on their needs, replacing the old appliances that burn a lot of electricity and “inflate” electricity bills. These three categories are considered the most energy consuming for a home but new technologies make them energy efficient and with low power consumption.
Therefore, households that have such old devices will be subsidized to replace them. Information of OT, sees the government wanting the subsidy rate on the expenditure to be between 30% and 40%, while at the same time there will be a ceiling to funding.
The criteria
One prerequisite for participation in the program will be the age of the device. The farther back it has been purchased and the more energy-intensive it is, the more the consumer who own it will gain priority in the subsidy.
Of course, the Ministry of Environment and Energy is considering the introduction of income criteria in order to primarily support low-income families and those in greater need than others to be supported by acquiring a modern household electrical appliance.
For the participation in the action, which will be financed by the NSRF, the ministry is preparing the creation of an electronic platform through which households will submit applications. Essentially, according to information from OT, they will state details of their old device that they want to replace and if the expense is eligible, approval will be given.
The amount of the subsidy will not be given to consumers, the information says. The latter with the certificate from the platform will visit an electrical appliance store and will acquire the high energy class device at a reduced price. The aid will be paid to the company and in this way the households will be facilitated for the quick replacement.
