The Greek-owned fleet of ocean-going vessels increased, in terms of value, by a whopping 92 percent between 2018 and 2022, according to figures presented by VesselsValue at the ongoing Posidonia exhibition in Athens.

The increase in value comes after the number of Greek-owned vessels rose by only 474, or 11 percent between the same period.

Greek owners and companies increased value in all types of vessels – bulkers, containership and LNG carriers – as well as ships carrying “greener” cargos.

In terms of value, Japan’s fleet remains in the lead, assessed at 211.5 billion USD in 2022, followed by China at 204.5 billion USD.

In terms of other figures, Greek interests so far in 2022 purchsed 130 used vessels, with bulkers in the lead.
