The semi-official Iranian news agency Mehr has said that Greek authorities released the tanker “Lana”, which was transporting Iranian oil and had been blocked off Karystos.
Specifically, the Ports and Shipping Authority of Iran stated that the tanker ship “Lana” under the Iranian flag confiscated by Greece in April is no longer being held and the cargo will be returned to its owner.
It is noted that last week the Chalkida Board of Appeals accepted the objections of the Iranian side, annulling the investigator’s provisions on the seizure and transfer of cargo to the US-leased tanker “Ice Energy”.
In this context, a solution seems to be have been found to the impasse, after the seizure two Greek tankers in the Persian Gulf by the Iranian “Guards of the Revolution” in retaliation to the “Lana” seizure. According to information, after the contacts of Greek officials with representatives of the Iranian embassy and the court decision, the release of the two Greek tankers being held hostage is expected.
The “Lana” was blocked following a request for legal aid submitted by the US, on the grounds that the proceeds from the sale of its cargo of oil would end up financing terrorism.
