The Greek-US strategic relationship in the field of tourism and the initiatives that lead to the upgrading of the country’s tourism product, was mentioned by the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias, during his speech at the conference of the Hellenic American Chamber, on “Challenges and Opportunities of the US Incoming Tourism and Investment for Greece. Building a Stronger Future Ahead”.
Mr. Kikilias stressed the contribution of the Hellenic American Chamber in the rebranding of Greece, a success he attributed to the Prime Minister who traveled around the world, promoting the country’s attractions for all economy sectors.
Upgrading bilateral relations
A crucial role in this effort was played by the Prime Minister’s trip to Washington last May, as he brought to our country new American investments in tourism, which are expected in the summer and which, as he said, “are here to stay”.
The minister underlined the upgrade of Greece-US relations in tourism, after a series of strategic agreements with the most important being that with American Airlines for 63 direct flights a week from the USA to Athens.
The role of cruises
Vassilis Kikilias also referred to the contribution of cruises, which are expected to increase by 25% compared to 2019 – and the efforts made to have cruises in Greece all year long, but always in terms of sustainable development.
Finally, the Minister of Tourism praised the initiatives of the US Ambassador George Tsunis for the promotion of our country, stating characteristically that “we are very lucky to have him in Greece”.
