Electricity consumption in Greece fell by 12.92 percent in August 2022 compared with the same month last year, the Independent Power Transmission Operator S.A. announced on Tuesday.

Specifically, power consumption fell to 5,002 GWh in August 2022, down from 5,329 GWh in the same month last year, with household and SMEs posting the biggest decline (-18.6 percent).

Medium to large businesses recorded a 3-percent decline. Electricity consumption was down 0.54 percent in the January-August period, with consumption reaching 35,337 GWh.

Conversely, domestic power production increased, as electricity exports quadrupled to 636 GWh and imports dropped by 62.84 percent to 275 GWh.

The dominant Public Power Corp. (PPC), the previous state monopoly, raised its market share to 63.33 percent in August (up from 62.94 percent in July 2022).
