Independent Public Revenue Authority auditors struck a veritable vein of gold  in terms of tax evasion.

Using the special risk analysis software, they detected strange tax behavior in a well-known pawnshop, in the center of Athens, with branches in many cities of the country.

So when they visited the business, they rummaged through its books and digital records, and found the following:

First, the pawnshop had…forgotten to pay stamp duty (3.6%), amounting to 2.9 million euros, on purchases of gold jewelry and other items from private individuals from 2016 to this year.

Secondly, in the tax declaration for 2021, the company submitted inaccurate data, since it did not include in the income the amount of gold exports, which it carried out, worth 1.19 million euros.

The auditors imposed the prescribed fines, while the investigation now extends to the declared tax figures for previous years.
