The Turkish president launched a new unprovoked attack against Greece against the backdrop of the refugee crisis.
Speaking at the Constitutional Justice Conference of the Islamic World, Tayyip Erdoğan criticized – among other things – the wall on the Evros, calling this measure “fascist”.
“Instead of finding a solution to the crisis, they locked the immigrants behind barbed wire. We watch in disgust as those who disregard the oppressed outside their borders display the most primitive reflexes of fascism when it comes to their own safety and well-being… The product of the morbid perception towards Muslims and the negative effects of the waves of hatred continue today side by side us” he said, as reported by Turkish media.
“Greece treats immigrants brutally”
Erdogan then argued that Greece has reached a level of brutality towards refugees, even describing the camps on the islands of the Eastern Aegean as “concentration camps”.
As he said, “the attitude of our neighbor in the West, of Greece, towards immigrants has now reached the level of barbarism. Every day a new atrocity is added, starting from the sinking of refugee boats in the middle of the sea to the pushing back of migrants with torture and robbery. Furthermore, Western countries show no real reaction to this spoiled behavior and cruelty of Greece.
Apart from a few condemnatory statements, we have seen no attempt to prevent this cruelty and protect the rights of the oppressed, including children and women. We are all deeply saddened by the continued indifference in the face of the shameful images we encounter in the refugee structures, reminiscent of border camps.”
