Attiko Metro, the underground fixed rail operator in the greater Athens area, has signaled a new 682-million-euro contract to extend Line 2, westward, with the construction of another three new stations.
An invitation for an expression of interest cites an extension by four kilometers of Line 2 towards the working-class municipality of Ilion, and three new stations: Palatiani, Ilion and Aghios Nikolaos, as well as a new transit station and expansion of a depot at the Elaionas site.
An additional 50,000 passengers a day are expected to be added to the metro network with the line extension.
A tender provision cites completion in 57 months from the day a contract is signed.
A deadline for expressions of interest is Feb. 28, 2023.
