Passenger traffic at Athens airport up 5% in Jan 2023 compared with pre-pandemic Jan 2019

International passenger traffic at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport of Athens (AIA) increased by 5 percent in January 2023, a noteworthy hike given that the figure is in comparison to pre-pandemic January 2019.
Despite the ongoing energy crisis and related inflationary pressures, the flow of travelers, especially those headed to and leaving the greater Athens area, remains robust.

Taking to his personal Twitter account on Tuesday, Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias noted that “…tourism is off to a dynamic beginning for 2023 in Athens. January Athens airport: International passenger traffic increased by 5% vs. 2019. We achieved an extension of the (tourism) season and our goal for tourism 365 days year-round is paying off, strengthening the Greek economy.”
