Strike at Athens metro on Tues. called off
One of the unions representing Athens metro employees -specifically those in operations centers- on Monday called off a 24-hour strike scheduled for the next day.
The union said there was a “channel of communication” with the government to resolve trade unionists’ demands, which it listed as “state (owned) transports, cheap and fast, and reliable for all citizens.”
While the inter-city rail operator (a monopoly at the time) was privatized by the previous SYRIZA government in 2017, with Trainose sold-off to Italy’s FS for 42 million euros, urban fixed rail (the suburban line, the Athens metro and pre-war electric line) remain state-owned and operated.
