PPC Renewables on Tuesday announced that it has won a tender issued by the independent body overseeing the energy market in Greece, known as RAE, to develop a hybrid power station on the west Dodecanese island of Astypalaia using renewable energy sources.

The tender comes within the framework of the innovative program “Astypalaia: Smart and Sustainable island”.

With the new hybrid station, around 80 percent of the island’s electricity needs will reportedly be produced from clean recyclable energy.

The project will be implemented in two stages: a hybrid station of solar panels with a total power of 3.5 MW and batteries with a capacity of 10 MW, covering 50 percent of local electricity demand.

The hybrid power station will also, according to design, cover e-vehicle charge needs on the picturesque isle.
