Tourists from four important distant markets, with high tourist expenditure and long stays, cast a vote of confidence for Greece, with the country being in the top ten holiday options for the coming months.
As seen in the Long Distance Market Barometer published by the European Travel Commission (ETC), visitors from the USA, Canada, Australia and Brazil choose the Greek summer high on their list.
In terms of the American market, US tourists place Greece in sixth place (12%) among European holiday destinations from May to August, after France, Italy, Great Britain and Spain .

Also, in sixth place, with a percentage of 18%, our country is in the choices of Australian tourists for this year, after France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain.

We expect visitors from two more distant markets this year, according to the latest Barometer, more specifically from Canada and Brazil. For Canadian visitors, Greece ranks fifth among European destinations along with Germany at 18%, after France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Regarding tourists from Brazil, Greece is in sixth place after Portugal, France, Italy, Spain and Germany.

It is worth noting that Greece is not among the preferences of Chinese and Japanese visitors. The Chinese market is slowly showing signs of recovery after the pandemic and France, Germany and Italy are in the top positions of preferences.
As the European Travel Commission points out, more than 50% of respondents in China, Brazil, Australia, Canada and the US expressed optimism about traveling abroad. Europe remains a top choice for long-haul travel and almost half of visitors are repeat visitors.
Germans “rush” for holidays in Greece
In the meantime, the German Federal Statistical Office publishes a comparison of prices for hotel and catering services at European level based on data from last March. It concluded that the cheapest holidays are in Turkey and Albania while the most expensive are in Switzerland.
In short, according to the German statistical office, German tourists can count on lower prices in Greece (21%), Spain (18%) and Cyprus (17%).
The lowest prices, compared to the cost of holidays in Germany, are found in Turkey (46%) and Albania (56%).
The Federal Bureau of Statistics reports: “Rising energy and food costs are putting a strain on many people’s travel budgets. Especially in southern and south-eastern European countries the price level for restaurant and hotel services is clearly lower than in Germany.”
