A Greek supreme court panel of justices on Thursday again blocked the candidacy of jailed Golden Dawn lieutenant Ilias Kasidiaris, whose newly established political formation was previously banned from standing in the May 21 election.

The specific supreme court composition of justices was tasked with finalizing a list of parties, coalitions of parties and independent candidates to stand in the upcoming June 25 election.

Kasidiaris, who is serving a prison sentence on felony convictions of forming and leading a criminal ring, among others, had attempted to stand as an independent candidate in Athens’ first district, within a ballot with other independent candidates.

A total of 32 parties and coalitions of parties were approved to run in the June 25 election, ranging from the far-left to the far-right and with several “niche” parties included. Forty-four parties had petitioned for participation.
