More than 100 third country nationals being ferried aboard a migrant boat were rescued by the Greek coast guard on Wednesday morning in international waters southwest of the Peloponnese harbor town of Pylos after the vessel overturned.

The bodies of 59 people were also recovered, while sea and rescue efforts are continuing with coast guard vessels, naval assets and airborne units.

The irregular migrants were sailing aboard a large fishing vessel that reportedly set off from Tobruk, in Libya, for an undetermined south European destination, possibly Italy, in order to land the group.

The entire group of undocumented would-be migrants will be transferred to the port city of Kalamata.
