The Hellenic Fiscal Council (HFISC) foresees economic growth in Greece this year to reach 2.6 percent.
The HFISC, an independent fiscal institution established in 2013 under the second memorandum bailout to submit macroeconomic forecasts related to the Stability Programme, noted that the Greek economy has maintained a significant portion of dynamism carried over from 2022 in the first months of 2023. This dynamism comes despite geopolitical uncertainty due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, high inflation, an energy crisis, and, as a result of the aforementioned, a tight monetary policy by the European Central Bank.
The institution, in its half-year report, foresees economic growth in Greece at 2.8 percent for 2024, riding on the back of a continued flow of investments and high private consumption.
The same report reminds that the annual rate of harmonized inflation in the country increased by 2.8 percent in June 2023, down from 4.1 percent in the preceding month, May 2023.
