With a post on Twitter, Notis Mitarakis sends his first message after his resignation.
He speaks of an error in judgment regarding his trip to Patmos while recalling his course at the Ministry of Immigration.
His post in detail:
“I handed over duties of Minister of Citizen Protection to @joikonomou, to whom I sincerely wish success in his work.
It was a special honor for me, in this short term, to work with its excellent potential @hellenicpolice. They did an excellent job during the difficult period of the fires, in the safe evacuation of areas and in the protection of the lives and property of Greek citizens. I trusted the leadership of the Hellenic Police, supporting its work, initiatives and proposals.
In my political course I prioritize duty, dedication, efficiency. I worked hard to tackle the migration crisis in 2020-23. I tried with a vision and a plan to make important changes in @yptpgr [citizen protection ministry].
I admit my bad judgment to be outside of Athens for 2 days, visiting my family, as this attitude sent the wrong message to those fighting on the front lines. So I took responsibility and resigned.
I sincerely thank the Prime Minister for the trust he has shown me in three different roles since 2019, in the Ministries of Labor & Social Affairs, Immigration & Asylum and Citizen Protection. I will continue to work methodically in Parliament, supporting the work of the Government, devoting even more time to the issues of Chios, whose citizens once again honored me with their trust”.
