The Sklavenitis grocery group on Tuesday announced turnover of 4.47 billion euros in 2022, up from 3.98 billion euros in 2021, with EBITDA, however, to 276.4 million euros.
The same figure for 2021 was 292.7 million euros.
Pre-tax profits totaled 78.5 million euros, down from 92.5 million the previous year. The grocer attributed the decline in profits to efforts to absorb significant portions of price hikes on a variety of goods.
The affiliated Hellenic Supermarkets Sklavenitis reported a slight increase in turnover, to 3.7 billion euros in 2022, up from 3.3 billion euros in 2021.
EBITDA fell to 226 million euros from 251.2 million euros; pre-tax profits eased to 60.1 million euros, down from 82.3 million euros the previous year.
At the same time, the group announced 2,352 new job positions, with its workforce exceeding 29,800 in December 2022.
Sklavenitis cited investments of more than 50 million euros in store renovations, the opening of a new hypermarket and the acquisition of nine super market outlets, from SEP Markets, in the northwest city of Ioannina.
