New arrears owed to the Greek tax bureau neared 3.2 billion euros in the Jan-Jul period this year, while the number of individuals and businesses with even a euro of arrears just under four million.
Tax bureau (AADE) figures show the overall total of arrears at the stratospheric 105 billion euros.
Of the latter figure, some 26.28 billion euros have already been declared as uncollectible.
However, even of the remaining 78+ billion euros, a significant portion is owed by enterprises no longer in business or bankrupt, and by individuals no longer economically active or even alive.
Specifically for July 2023, new arrears totaled 358 million euros.
