More than 4.1 million tourists visited Greece during the January–April period, representing a 5.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Tourist traffic from the United States increased significantly by approximately 27%.
According to data from the Bank of Greece, travel via airports increased by 10.8%, while travel via land border crossings decreased by 3.9%.
Travel from EU Countries
During the period under review, travel from EU-27 countries amounted to 2.04 million travelers, marking a 5.4% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. In contrast, travel from non-EU countries increased by 19.7%, reaching 2 million travelers.
Travel from eurozone countries rose by 3.2%, while travel from EU-27 countries outside the eurozone decreased sharply by 27.9%.
Specifically, travel from Germany increased by 3.6%, reaching 475,500 travelers, while travel from France declined by 22.6%, amounting to 164,600 travelers. Travel from Italy also fell by 11.0%, to 198,300 travelers.
Travel from Non-EU Countries
As for non-EU countries, travel from the United Kingdom increased by 41.5%, reaching 294,600 travelers, while travel from the United States rose by 26.9%, to 339,500 travelers. Finally, travel from Russia increased slightly to 2,800 travelers.
Increase in Tourism Revenues
The rise in tourist arrivals resulted in a 10.6% increase in tourism revenues compared to the same period in 2024, reaching €2.1 billion.
This development is mainly due to a 26.0% increase in revenues from residents of non-EU countries, which amounted to €1 billion, while revenues from residents of EU-27 countries declined by 1.8%, reaching €1.025 billion. More specifically, revenues from eurozone countries amounted to €861.5 million, down 5.7%, while revenues from EU-27 countries outside the eurozone increased by 25.4%, reaching €164.1 million.
In particular, revenues from Germany increased by 0.8%, amounting to €297.1 million, while revenues from France fell by 25.0%, to €110.2 million. Revenues from Italy were also down by 6.6%, amounting to €110.3 million.
Among non-EU countries, revenues from the United Kingdom rose by 23.4%, to €167.8 million, while revenues from the United States increased by 36.8%, reaching €325.5 million. Lastly, revenues from Russia increased to €2.5 million.
