Greece Named Best European Destination at the 2025 Telegraph Travel Awards

Greece has been named the Best European Destination at the prestigious Telegraph Travel Awards 2025, overtaking Italy, which had held the top spot for an unbroken 25 years. Norway completed the top three in this year’s rankings.

The award, considered one of the most influential in the travel industry for British tourists, was the result of votes cast by 20,000 readers of The Telegraph, including both print subscribers and registered users of its online platform. Voters selected their favorite travel destinations, airlines, hotels, and holiday rental companies based on their personal travel experiences from the past year.

The awards have been held annually since 1998 and are known for shaping travel choices among the UK’s high-income, travel-savvy public. With over 600,000 digital subscribers and more than 12 million unique annual visitors to its travel section, The Telegraph wields significant influence in the industry.

The award ceremony took place in central London on Friday, July 11, 2025. Eleni Skarveli, Head of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) Office for the UK and Ireland, accepted the accolade on behalf of Greece.

Commenting on the result, The Telegraph’s online edition described Greece’s win as “richly deserved,” highlighting the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. The publication praised Greece’s “exquisite islands scattered across the Ionian and Aegean seas,” as well as its “visible history,” referencing landmarks from the Parthenon in Athens to the ruins of Knossos in Crete.
