According to a recent survey conducted by Revolut, a neobank and fintech company offering banking services, that included a representative sample of the Greek population, among 19 other European countries, the main financial concerns for Greek tourists are the fear that unexpected expenses will drain their finances (17%) and the difficulty of managing their budget while resisting the temptation to overspend (17%).
The survey, conducted in June 2025 by research company Dynata through an online questionnaire, indicated that Greeks were most concerned about money management while on holiday. In addition, safety also weighs heavily on their minds, as travelers remain most worried about physical theft, with 16% of respondents citing it as their top security concern.
In contrast, the fraud or unauthorized charges appear to be far less concerning for Greeks, as only 9% were concerned, making them, along with Romanians, the least concerned in Europe, where the average stands at 13%.
The data also reveal a significant generational divide. Physical theft is a primary concern for older travelers (21% of those aged 55–64), while it worries just 12% of Gen Z travelers (18–24). Conversely, concerns about fraud or unauthorized charges are more prevalent among younger generations (18% of 18–24-year-olds) compared to just 5% of Gen X (55–64).
The head of fraud at Revolut, Dave Eborne, said that for many Greeks, managing their budget and fearing unexpected expenses are real sources of stress during holidays. He continued, however, to point out the surprising fact that the younger generations are less worried about physical theft, something he warned they should take seriously, given how much sensitive information is stored on smartphones.
