Greece’s grid operator, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A (HEDNO or DEDDIE), has ordered an emergency response to the wildfires plaguing several regions of the country this week.
The goal is to restore power as soon as possible to fire-stricken areas, with repair crews from various parts of the country instructed to head to the affected zones, including the eastern Aegean Island of Chios (Hios) and the Ionian Sea islands of Kefalonia (Cephalonia) and Zakynthos.
Scores of settlements, villages and even parts of small cities have been left without power due to the fires, which have burned pylons, power lines and even damaged substations.
No less than 109 wildfires and rural blazes were reported throughout Greece over the past two days, as gusty winds have fanned flames and smoke
