Greek Minister of Maritime and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias met with the newly confirmed U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, in the early hours of Friday (Greek time) in Washington, DC.
According to in.gr sources, the meeting was held in a warm atmosphere and lasted for an hour.
Following the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Kimberly Guilfoyle as the next U.S. ambassador to Greece, Minister Vassilis Kikilias posted a photo with her on social media, offering his congratulations.
“Congratulations @kimberlyguilfoyle on the approval of your nomination as US Ambassador to 🇬🇷! Your hard work and determination made this possible.
I look forward to strengthening our partnership on shipping- a key sector where both 🇺🇸 & 🇬🇷 have a lot to contribute!”
In a statement after her confirmation, Guilfoyle expressed gratitude to former President Donald J. Trump and the Senate for their confidence.
“I am profoundly grateful to President Trump and the U.S. Senate for their trust and confidence in me. It is the honor of my life to serve as the first female Ambassador of the United States to Greece,” she said. “Greece is the birthplace of democracy, liberty, and the rule of law — the very ideals that inspired our American Founders and continue to make America the greatest nation on Earth. As Ambassador, I look forward to working with our Greek Allies to advance peace, prosperity, and security in the Eastern Mediterranean. I will be a proud representative of President Trump, a fierce advocate for American interests, and a steadfast friend to Greece and the Greek people,” a press release read.
Guilfoyle will become the 25th U.S. ambassador to Greece since Washington upgraded its diplomatic mission to an embassy in 1942, and the first woman to hold the post.
